Queensway Node: Reimagining Urban Underspaces

The Queensway Node is envisioned as a transformative space beneath the Queensway Flyover—turning an underutilized stretch of infrastructure into a community-first urban destination. More than just beautification, it represents a bold reinterpretation of how cities can reclaim void spaces and give them back to the people.

This future node is designed to celebrate Queenstown’s storied past, with elements that reflect its status as Singapore’s first satellite town. Through thoughtful placemaking, it will serve as both a neighborhood living room and a gateway to the Rail Corridor, connecting residents with nature, heritage, and one another.

The area will feature multi-use community zones that support play, gatherings, rest, and creative expression. By focusing on accessibility and inclusivity, the space invites people of all ages and abilities to take part in shaping its everyday life.

Developed through a national design competition in 2024, the final concept draws from a wide spectrum of ideas and aspirations voiced by professionals and the public alike. It shows a deep commitment to co-creation, giving form to what a shared city space can be when built from the ground up—literally and figuratively.

Targeted for completion in 2027, the Queensway Node stands as a testament to adaptive reuse, where infrastructure no longer separates, but unites. It’s a new kind of civic heart—one that beats in the shadow of concrete, but glows with community spirit.
